first the game logs me out, then it forces me to change my password because the old one was "invalid"
now i used the new password on BOTH the browser and the client, one logged in, and the other said invalid password

Login data entered into third party launchers in the past can be collected by services which save and distribute user credentials free of charge, resulting in your system files no longer prioritizing Mojang as the server they want to connect to. I hope this helps. ^SA
