Are you seeing an error when trying to connect to the Marketplace? Try logging out and back in as well as refreshing your internet connection, but if you see any specific error messages or screens, let us know what you see so we can narrow down any issues! ^AM

It can be a bit confusing, yeah! You should be able to cross-play with the Bedrock edition, but not the Java edition though. ^BT
