Did they try to create a new Realm and upload the World to that Realm to see if that worked? From the sounds of it, that particular Realm may be corrupted. ^TK

If the World is uploaded to a Realm then it doesn't get deleted if inactive for 280 days vs a single player world that can be deleted if you uninstall the game. ^TK
