Cross-platform play is not possible between Minecraft: Java Edition and the Bedrock versions of the game; iPad users are only able to use Bedrock, while Java Edition can only be played on PC, Mac, and Linux. Let us know if you have any other questions about this! ^FF

That's definitely no fun to deal with! It looks like this is a known issue that the team is looking into getting fixed. In the meantime, make sure Minecraft is running the latest version on all your devices & try signing out and back in to all Minecraft/Microsoft accounts. ^FF
