Are you Xbox Live friends? Crossplay between console and PC is only available for Bedrock Editions of Minecraft and won't be available if your friend plays Java Edition. Is your friend also playing Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock?) Have you tried any troubleshooting? ^AM
