According to the changelog, it does look like the max render distance was changed. Unfortunately Support doesn't have information about the specific numbers, so we don't have a direct answer for that. ^NS

Realms should currently be up to date. If the Realm owner isn't seeing an update, they may need to update the game manually to make sure that goes into effect. ^NS
