Because Minecraft Pocket Edition syncs with your Microsoft/Xbox Live account, downloading the Xbox app to your phone, signing in and restarting Minecraft could fix the issue. You may also try force-closing and relaunching Minecraft and fully resetting your phone. ^SA

Hi there! The Pocket Edition and Java Edition usernames belong to two different account systems (Xbox Live and Mojang), so it's possible your preferred name may already be taken in Minecraft Java (Mojang). I hope this helps! ^SA
