A small Ukrainian city called Mariupol is now a battleground because of its port and large steel mills.
@mehdirhasan takes a closer look at the history of the region and the current effort by Ukraine to keep it:
“There’s no such thing as country over party, no threat to Democracy too great or too dangerous to let Democrats win,” says @mehdirhasan of the GOP in 2022.
“You can see how easy it is to lose our democracy without a single bullet being fired.”
If Putin feels like he’s losing control of Russia, “I certainly think he would intentionally start some kind of conflict,” says @jeffaedmonds. He’d threaten that unless sanctions are lifted, “They’re going to have a full war between NATO and Russia.”
“We don’t change. It’s the international community’s reaction that changes,” says @KenRoth of inconsistencies in how governments and the media and nations respond to HRW reports.
“Clearly the best way to promote human rights is to promote them consistently.”

@CalNBC explains how that answer has changed over the past week. (And not in a good way if you’re a Biden Admin. official):
“I’m glad to see they’re having morale problems. I’m glad to see they’re having supply problems. All that’s good.”
@ltgrusselhonore talks about the issues facing Russian forces as they try to overtake Ukraine.
