Bess Truman remains the longest-lived FLOTUS, having died, all but forgotten (the way she liked it), at 97 in 1982. Her death was mentioned on the news, but didn't make the front page of most papers outside of western Missouri. Here she was when she was still cute:

That's how it was then. But, in the south, we all had "crazy" in our families & we set em on the front porch. (Don't @ me. I'm talking in generalizations.) My own people are crazy. She had courage & integrity & was definately shrewd about people.
