Netanyahu's political career is exactly why this war is happening. He funds Hamas. Dictators need an enemy to fight to garner support at home. Putin gained notoriety by blaming Chechnians for bombings orchestrated by the KGB.

Probably, he’s been PM for a lot of years and the baggage gets pretty heavy. What matters is that he gets to prosecute this with a war Cabinet. The prospect likely frees rather than constrains him.
