Julian Assange deserves jail because "he is not a member of the free press," @jamil_n_jaffer tells @mehdirhasan. But @JameelJaffer says: "If you can charge Julian Assange" with publishing U.S. secrets, "you can charge any national security journalist with that."

see @emptywheel for details but having Jaffer_1 repeat a largely pointless argument about who is and is not a publisher and then have Jaffer_2 misrepresent the charges against Assange is a misleading framing of the issue and does not further the cause of press freedom.
Just like crooked cops, they want Assange in jail for doing legitimate journalism while not participating in the corporate grift, essentially for not toeing the line for the MIC and capital class. Jamil's saying the quiet part in a stage whisper here.
