David Frum put this well. You can’t negotiate with a hostage taker who doesn’t want anything in return for releasing the hostage, but is doing it simply because he likes taking hostages.

I find it funny that Republicans want a raped nine year old girl to give birth, yet at the same time they want to cut Medicaid, and reduce access to childcare. It's really hilarious actually.
