Lab leak theory is "a distraction more than anything else," @PeterHotez says. He tells @mehdirhasan what the current evidence actually shows.

Mehdi Hasan is a journalist. Peter Hotez is not. Common sense dictates & evidence supports the lab leak scenario over the live market theory. Risk analysis also suggests cancelling gain of function research globally and hardening research facility assets without regard to Wuhan.
@PeterHotez has been wrong on so many issues related to Covid. This little man has no shame and should just go back into his hole.

That's just a story with 0 scientific facts. You can't do an outbreak analysis when those weren't even the first covid patients. Just using China spoon fed data.

Redfield said the same thing to Dr Gupta on CNN way back. More or less just his "experience" or "hunch". Ok....he could have spoken more publicly as CDC head if he was really convinced with his view but didn't. Why....

A distraction? Wtf? No, we'd like to know the origin of a virus that has upended our lives and has allowed science to be politicized

i admire dr. hotez but he’s not acknowledging researchers didn’t find SARS-COV-2 strain in any wild or domestic animals, with virus. they did, however, find the virus in sewage and on surfaces. That says to me humans brought it to the market, not vice versa.

If there was a lab leak, that is something scientists need to know to prevent the next one. However, many of the people who push the lab leak theory care very little about that & use it to try to exonerate Trump for the criminally incompetent job he did during the pandemic.
