Antisemitic tropes are on the rise, especially on the right. But it seems whenever a Republican is accused of antisemitism, their reply is, “I can’t be antisemitic, I love Israel!” How does *that* work? It doesn’t. And @mehdirhasan explains why:

It doesn't work. Israel is part of the end of days evangelical fantasy of the final destruction of the Jews. Antisemitism animates Christian Zionism, which presents a dilemma for actual Zionists...
This was beautifully done. But Jews won't like it because - within the context of supposed rising antisemitism- it suggests a egalitarian view of the Israel/Palestine issue. It also cast light on how both Jews and non-Jews have weaponized "antisemitism."
