They are. A cynical model has developed where interest is sowed by seeding the story but then revealed in books. It's not about journalism but about crass marketing, & the media outlets are partners in this double dipping.
You also have to weight the very good chances these held back tidbits are just made up bullshit.
Let's add Mike pence to the list of offenders. He could have come forward to the Jan 6 committee, justice dept, or press conference. Yet he kept all he knew quiet until it is published in his book. Endless self references to his faith, yet his motives are ambition and profit.
