I have been screaming that same thing into the void for over a year!!! It was a potentially fatal calculation for the future health of our democracy depending on upcoming SCOTUS ruling. I firmly believe they could have gotten it done as standalone!

It would’ve looked really bad for Rs to filibuster a stand-alone, clean gerrymandering bill. Not saying a slam dunk, but reasonable chance Dems could’ve gotten something to the floor for debate/vote.If not, Dems could’ve used it as a campaign message: “Rs believe in cheating.”
