Dems rightly slammed Trump for his apparent love of dictators such as Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. But Trump isn’t the only American leader to give him a pass. In fact, @mehdirhasan points out, Egypt has gotten U.S. aid for decades — and it still is under President Biden:

False equivalency. Trump loved dictators. All other presidents have found Egypt a useful but flawed ally to advance American interests. Maybe that calculation is flawed, but it’s based in a very different instinct than Trump’s dicktator docking wet dreams.

US aid to Egypt is managed by the CIA not the US government. It is designed to keep the peace between Egypt and Israel and underpins the 1978 Camp David agreement.
