A woman won the popular vote by 3,000,000 and lost due to EC. I can only imagine the R's reaction if that would have happened the other way around.

France never had a woman head of state in the modern era, only Prime Ministers (Édith Cresson for less than a year in 1991/92 and the current PM, Élisabeth Borne barely, 3 months in the position), the equivalent of a VP, neither elected nor at the helm of the country.
