Nancy Pelosi has made her stand for human rights and democracy in China clear throughout her political career. But, as @mehdirhasan points out, her controversial trip to Taiwan may not have helped her advance those causes.

The smugness in this guy's face and accent is something special. C'mon, reduce that British accent a bit at least. You're not an aristocrat. You're on MSNBC.
Is this the Nancy Pelosi whose insider dealing enables her & her husband have $multi-million stock portfolio including in tech & US defence companies: Lockheed, Raytheon? Now why would Pelosi want to visit Taiwan? currently.att.yahoo.com/att/…
Diplomacy and respect needed, esp after trump. NOT a prc fan, but they were just starting to edge westward...countries have their pride. And I'm sorry, but we have a lot lot to fix here. Smh.

Always bitching about something. @mehdirhasan is the most unsatisfied person walking the planted, while also being the most goal post moving person at the same time. That's true skill.
It's hard for our lawmakers to espouse human rights when the world can see us.
She caused 4 Asian nations to go on high alert & scramble their militaries. (Oldest son is at uni in Thailand). Protestors everywhere. Rest of Taiwan gov’t (not Pres) has asked China to provide air/sea protection for them through Sunday. What did she do?
Worth considering that her visit opens the door for other nations to stand in solidarity with Taiwan. To the extent the CCP has inched closer to Taiwan in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, her visit could provide the necessary flex to help Taiwan avoid an imminent conflict
