Amid the rise of a new Omicron subvariant, @mehdirhasan asks: Isn’t it the government’s job to protect citizens from Covid? “The CDC has slowed down its guidance ... and it needs to ramp it back up," Dr. @Bob_Wachter says. “But I think the days for mandates are passed."

This Covid minimizer shouldn't be given much cred. He is not an epidemiologist. It is like asking a podiatrist about the brain. Waste of time. Also heavily ego driven, listen carefully "My" hospital. Limelight seeker.
Medhi, I watch MSNBC all the time, and you are the first one in forever to even bring up Covid. Thank you! That said, please get more expert guests that don't just tow the line. 3,180 are dying of Covid every 10 days. (1)

Wondering where they got those photos of people wearing masks and then I saw "2020." Definitely not seeing that now! Starting to get looks and people telling me I don't need to wear it anymore. Well I haven't gotten covid yet and I'm still trying not to. 👍

I appreciate Dr. Wachter but this is a privileged take. 1-way masking is not very effective when the R0 is estimated ~18. Many of us, disproportionately minorities and poor, can't protect ourselves, and don't have access to proper healthcare when they do get sick.

Ugh. Maybe it's different in California, but here in Arizona, the difference in compliance between a masking "recommendation" and a "mandate" is around 10% versus close to 100%.

That minimizing, reckless grifter who endangers others deserves zero attention
I wouldn’t ask @Bob_Wachter anything about Covid. He would have flown with his Covid positive wife on a plane even after he was exposed but decided against it because planes no longer have mask mandates? He has minimized Covid and mitigation until recently because wife has LC

It is not the government’s job to protect me from an airborne virus. They can make recommendations but I can decide for myself what risk is appropriate for me and my family.

If they passed, it's only because reputable doctors like Bob aren't stressing their importance anymore. They've stopped caring about people outside their personal sphere IMO
