An individual right to self-defense with a gun isn’t actually provided by the Second Amendment, @ElieNYC argues. Its original purpose was to preserve white supremacy and slavery. You’re going to want to hear him explain it:

I'd like to point out that the 2nd amendment was ratified at the end of the same year of the only successful slave revolt in Haiti in 1791. There's no such thing as a coincidence.

Yet the republican party platform website says the 2a is a God given right. No it isn't God given. But the fanatical 2a folks believe that, esp in Texas. NRA slush $ buys elected seats at the state and fed level, hence those who have the power to regulate the 2a, won't.

Thank God most folks don't watch the drivel on MSNBC.
...and if slaves had a right to an AR15, slavery would have lasted about 5 minutes. Read, learn and think with the top of your brain.
Is there any evidence for the veracity of these claims about what the Founders said

It actually is provided by the 2A. It doesn’t matter what he thinks the original purpose of the Amendment was. One of the same “white guys” he’s talking about, Jefferson, literally said it was to fight a tyrannical government.

Of course the Second Amendment does not "provide" the right to self-defense. That right is inate and natural. The Second Amendmend just forbids the state from infringing upon it.

Wow, people who believe this are not bright. The whole reason was to protect against government tyranny. Everything is about race to the left though so no surprise here.
