An individual right to self-defense with a gun isn’t actually provided by the Second Amendment, @ElieNYC argues. Its original purpose was to preserve white supremacy and slavery. You’re going to want to hear him explain it:

The purpose was to ensure civilian forces could counteract a tyrannical federal government. The claim that Scalia invented an individual right in Heller is kinda belied by the fact that individuals have possessed guns legally since the founding.

Question: if we as citizens aren’t protected by the 2nd amendment to defend ourselves and property with a gun, what are we supposed to protect it with?

So the same government that wants to keep the black person oppressed is the same government you want to have full control of guns? If he listens to his own argument, he will understand why citizens need to be able to arm themselves...

Also, does the first amendment protect speech on computers and phones? Or is it just the second amendment that doesn't "live" with changes in technology?
