An individual right to self-defense with a gun isn’t actually provided by the Second Amendment, @ElieNYC argues. Its original purpose was to preserve white supremacy and slavery. You’re going to want to hear him explain it:

When you think a man in the sky tells you you're so much better than others that you can own them, there's a fundamental problem with the structure of your belief system.

that may have been part of the reason. The core reason according to the Malitia acts that followed was the Militia was part of the standing army to be called on when needed. Malitia's after WW I were ended because modern weapons required a better trained soldier.

Watched enough documentaries to know that but many don't. Thank you for saying this out loud. Ken Burns is one of the best!

To be fair, it also had a lot to do with balancing the very real need to deter invasions by European powers against widespread fears Americans had of a standing Federal military. But either way, all its original rationales have been moot since at least 1865.

This is misleading even if true, because the supreme court has since ruled on the 2nd amendment and changed the status quo entirely - they specified it was for personal protection, and one of the founders also said it was for personal ability to rebel against Tyranny (jefferson)

Excuse me I may be wrong but as I understand it the 2nd amendment was included so that the colonists were not reduced to slavery by King George, correct me if I am.

To ensure the "states" had the power to raise a militia is just code for make sure the wealthy landowners who also owned slaves had the power. Don't let the word "states" fool you. The wealthiest land owner's and most privileged should be thought of as the "state."

Making everything to be white supremacy stokes racial flames and destroys the ability to find unity. Are lawful gun owners that are not white about preserving white supremacy too?

What does this have to do with today? There are no "slave revolts", everyone of every race can own a firearm, this point only has merit if slaves still exist and weren't allowed to carry. Is the answer to allow ONLY the gov't to have guns?
