.@SenWarren says "Today would be a great today to cancel student loan debt." She tells @mehdirhasan that "If the president canceled $50,000 in student loan debt, he could cancel the black-white wealth gap, for those with student loan debt, by 27 pts." It'd help tens of millions.

Parents graduated high school. Grandparents only middle school--had to work. Sister and I couldn't buy alcohol at 17 but could sign life away w/ loans under threat of "being nothing" if we didn't. Years later, still paying w/no end in sight. Wages don't add up.

He talked a good game about canceling student loan debt to get elected and just like them before him did nothing! The whole system is broken so we are darned if we do and darned if we don't. The average person won't get anything canceled so why bother.

At least make it interest free so people have a chance to pay it off. When a loan is that high the interest makes it impossible not only to pay but to pay toward principle balance.

@SenWarren Thank you for your work on student loan reform. I graduated in 2000 with 52k in debt. I've paid $450 per month since then and my current balance is 72k. I don't understand the governments math here but their math and interest rate smells like predatory lending to me.

Honestly this is so true, I was two years into culinary school and almost had my degree when it just wasn’t possible to get anymore money from the banks. I had to drop out and now I’m working a full time job to just get by.

What about the people who already paid their dues and worked through hard times as responsible adults?

You took a loan and signed for it! Pay it back like I had to pay mine back, even if you have to work at Mcds or Dunks. Otherwise, don't take a loan!
