Books have been banned in school districts before, what is different about it this time?

I'm a former member of an authoritarian church, invited by friends. Any of us who asked questions were excommunicated & shunned (a woman CPA, a man Dr, me - woman paralegal). Books were banned, yoga pants banned, home decor reported back to church elders. FREE at last! 😂
