The strange thing is - if the US really wanted to increase its pressure on China, it might have wanted to keep its bases in Afghanistan, a country that border China from the opposite side of where the US can place it's aircraft carriers.
We must seriously rein in the military industrial complex and the military budget.

There won’t be a pivot to China, unless China provokes it (e.g., invading Taiwan, systematic interdictions in the South China Sea, etc.). No, the MIC would go after Iran next. Much lower-hanging fruit, militarily speaking.
U.S. is out of Afghanistan but I bet the DoD budget doesn’t drop by a single penny next year
