It was a miscalculation not a mistake. They thought they could inventivize people to get vaxed. And that people would be honest about their vax status. So out of touch with the world/country we live in.

The CDC guidance was very clear and clinically accurate based on the data they had at the time. It has never been their guidance that unvaccinated people should not be wearing masks. The problem is that unvaccinated adults can’t be trusted.
