The CDC dropped the mandate when studies showed that vaccinated people do not spread the virus when asymptomatic. Unless this changes or unless Delta proves to be more effective in evading the mRNA vaccines, there is no reason to change the guidance for fully vaccinated people.

If the CDC started encouraging masks again, I think it would undermine the entire effort. It feels like evey the most conscientious people are at the breaking point.
