Would you urge the WH to waive vaccine patents to help India & other countries? @BillNye tells @MehdiRHasan it’s complicated. But “It’s in everyone’s best interest to vaccinate people all over the world, and if the U.S. has to pay for it that’s well worth it.”

America has lost about 576k people due to the virus. If we had this vaccine BEFORE the virus hit we would have lost about 350 Americans TOTAL. Let that sink in.
Just place advanced orders at the US firms that'd allow them to expand manufacturing. If anyone thinks the vaccines are expensive, wait to find out how much more getting covid is no matter where. Ask the IMF, World Bank etc. to help finance the purchases.
Yes, I agree. There's not a rope in this swimming pool separating the vaccinated from the unvaccinated. The US benefits from fighting COVID worldwide. Save lives today.

So no, Bill doesn't support waiving patents. He supports the US paying big pharma to vaccinate everyone, huge difference.
Of course. All of these cases just means more risk a variant will emerge that is vaccine resistant. The last thing we need is to do this all over again.

I hope he was talking about protecting the people of India and not the companies. These greedy bastards got public money to finance this technology. At the very least it belongs to the public at the percentage it was funded. It's criminal to allow 100% ownership to these corps.
The biotech firms behind these vaccines have already seen billions in profits and revaluation of their stock prices. They can afford to waive their fees and massively lower the cost of bringing vaccines to parts of the world that need them today.

You know what would be cool? If Pfizer, Moderna, J&J temporarily waived the patents THEMSELVES. They can look like the good guy. Talk about PR! #COVID19 #vaccine #IndiaCovidCrisis
Mehdi why you interrupting the science guy brah?
