Law enforcement should not be dealing with drugs, says @Kassandra_Fred: “This is a health issue. We are in the middle of an enormous overdose crisis,” she says. “We cannot arrest our way out of this problem… we actually have to make our policy interventions reflect that."

@Kassandra_Fred excellent! Another overlooked issue is the DEA raiding pain MDs. They’re using the controversal CDC guidelines to profile and arrest good MDs! Many pain patients have either suffered, suicided, or gone to unsafe street supply b/c of this! No one will help us!

Health issue and often a response to trauma....let’s approach this with compassion and support in the right places.

Beyond being a health issue, it is a mental health issue. Substance abuse causes physical and psychological damage, jail will not change that! Nevertheless, the #WarOnDrugs is but an excuse to justify the feeding of dark meat to the for profit prison industrial complex monster.
Very inspiring! In 2001 Portugal adopted a decriminalization policy like the one Oregon is now implementing and it's been a massive success. The war on drugs is indeed an unmitigated disaster, hopefully other states will follow Oregon's lead. youtube.com/sKt3v7ENyDU
