A simple majority in the Senate can vote to disqualify Trump from future office, impeachment expert @danielsgoldman tells @mehdirhasan. *But* there’s a big catch. Let him explain why even *that* is an unlikely outcome of the impending Senate trial:

The disqualification can only be imposed with conviction. So you need the 2/3rds vote before the majority vote comes into play. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment may only require a majority vote, but the question seems to be unresolved.

Dems should not focus on one speech. 1,000 people didn’t kill themselves for Jim Jones because he handed them a drink. They were fed lies/fear for years before his final speech. Trump knew this would happen. He invited them + watched them with pride.

Nicely explained. Yes, the higher standard of a 2/3 vote must occur before the lower standard majority vote occurs.

It means the impeachment conviction of Trump must precede his disqualification from seeking elective office in the future?

A solid majority vote re: inciting insurrection could set up a subsequent 14th amendment scenario.
I know it matters on principal, but won't his upcoming indictment for multiple pre presidential crimes mean that he will be unable to hold or even run for office again??
