Reporter @igorbobic recorded that now-famous video of the Capitol police officer distracting the mob from the Senate’s open doors and offering himself as bait. “I had no idea how close we came to disaster” at the time, Bobic says. “He may have made the difference.”

At first I thought the officer was fearful for his life; a black man being chased by a white mob that chose to follow him rather than follow one of the many other paths available to them. Obviously, that's what he wanted the mob to think! Brilliant as well as brave!

When I first saw the video, I could tell he was drawing the mob, but I didn't know why or from what. This man is an American hero, and deserves recognition.

This Capitol Police Officer willingly put his life in danger in front of a raging mob misdirecting the rioters away from the Senate chamber. The officers that held their ground deserve our gratitude. The officers that took selfies deserve our contempt.

This video. My God. What is the highest honour America can give this man? The bravery. The quick thinking. There's no telling what he may have prevented.
