Ford’s pardon of Nixon “didn’t heal the nation, it only aggravated the sense that Nixon had escaped justice,” says @KevinMKruse. “Furthermore, the pardon only emboldened Nixon,” a lesson many presidents of both parties took to heart.

Michael Conway, former House attorney for the Nixon impeachment inquiry, suggests Biden might pardon Trump for the good of the country: "If he leaves it to the Justice Department to do and prosecutors to do, there will be a prosecution of Donald Trump."

Ford’s pardon stabbed America in the back.

I remember how pissed so many adults were that Nixon got pardoned. It made it easier for Carter to ascend to the presidency.

Only emboldened Nixon? To do what? Talk to David Frost? Pardoning Nixon most likely cost Ford the election against Carter. It was the right thing to do. Trump is much different. We do not need a “truth and reconciliation” committee but wrong-doing needs to be investigated. Fully.

with so many rabid followers, a pardon will only embolden them. T needs to be brought to justice. It wont turn all of them back to normal, But will turn some. And little by little is the only way back.

Another claim often made is that sucessors prosecuting their predecessors is a sign of an unhealthy democracy, which may be so. But, as the examples of Pinochet and Montt demonstrate, so is letting your former dictator roam free as if he hadn’t killed a fuckton of people.
