“We can't look at Europe for what an American fascist movement would look like,” says fascism scholar @jasonintrator, because “an American fascist would be someone who’d be the most American as possible... They’re not gonna be wearing lederhosen over here.”

Yes this is an American fascism, dripping in the blood soaked American flag & Mike Pence’s bible taken literally. Was so glad to see Jason adding his voice to The Pledge to The People of the World from @refusefascism!
TRUMP LOST!!! He's still trying to pull a fascist coup serving white supremacy, misogyny, xenophobia & threats to the world. We must not let him. Sign the Pledge to the People of the World: actionnetwork.org/petitions/… Protest Sat. Nov 14: refusefascism.org/events/ #TrumpPenceOutNow

The observation that American fascism will not copy European models of fascism is an excellent point. A right-wing movement in the US will promote uniquely American attributes. But, there are salient commonalities: inciting fear, hatred, violence, paranoia, and xenophobia.

Attributed to Sinclair Lewis. Never confirmed but reflects his thinking.

Franco didn’t wear lederhosen and neither did Mussolini
They will look like Trump, Barr, and Pompeo, a West Pointer.
