Palestinian rights activist @MustafaBarghou1 on conditions in the occupied West Bank: “Horrible. Absolutely horrible.”
“There is a very serious amount of Israeli settler terror against Palestinians.”
In tonight's #handover, @MehdiRHasan and @AymanM react to Elon Musk's dumpster fire performance this week.
"It's a reminder that billionaires should stay in their lanes. Build your rockets, build your cars. You're not an expert in geopolitics."
On top of the Israeli bombardment and human suffering in Gaza, @MehdiRHasan looks at how the Israeli military and extremist settlers are carrying out a campaign of violence and displacement in the occupied West Bank.
"We're going to see critical speech being target by political operatives and the judicial system," Yale Professor Jason Stanley warns @Mehdirhasan of a second Trump term.
.@MollyJongFast: "I do think the larger problem here is that the mainstream media is not built to be able to sort of protect democracy from fascism... With Hillary Clinton, [the media was] so focused on the odds that they forgot about the stakes."
"Have we become numb to the Trumpian threat? Have we normalized it? Have we continued to grade Trump and his authoritarian acolytes on a curve? Have we become the frog in the boiling fascist pot?" @mehdirhasan asks whether Americans recognize the danger of a second Trump term.
.@PeterBeinart on the censorship of Pro-Palestinian rhetoric: “The idea that if you’re going to…say you can’t say ‘Palestine should be free from the river [to] the sea’ then you also shouldn’t be able to say that you can have one Israel from the river to the sea.”
"We are looking at what human rights organizations have documented as massive war crimes of indiscriminate bombings of Palestinian civilian areas and in many cases, obliterating entire families from existence." -@OmarBaddar on the rising death toll in Gaza.
.@PeterBeinart on what needs to happen in order to successfully weaken Hamas in the long run:
“Ultimately, it’s only if Palestinians have a path to freedom and they can see the ethical resistance… [that] an ethical fight for freedom is working.”
"Some of the most powerful and influential right-wing voices in America have been working to resurrect the kind of old-school brazen anti-Jewish rhetoric that wouldn't have been out of place in 1930s Germany."
Israel and Hamas are believed to be close to a hostage deal in return for a temporary cease-fire, but nothing has been finalized yet. A pause would be crucial to saving innocent civilians in Gaza, where the death toll is already more than 13,000.
"So many voters, including young voters, have been sickened by seeing indefinite occupation and these long-waged wars that don't make us safer," @RepCasar says of the shift among Democrats toward supporting a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
"She had talents that he did not have... if I had to rely on Jimmy Carter's ability to see into someone's motives or Rosalynn Carter's, I would take Rosalynn and he understood that." -@BeschlossDC
“What would a second Trump presidency, without any human guardrails, without any adults in the room, actually look like?”
@MehdiRHasan pulls back the curtain and takes a look at who could be tasked with carrying out Trump’s radical agenda should he retake the White House.
"[Rosalynn Carter] was a tremendous combination of strength and grace. She was a very tough political operative. Even her husband said she had a better political antenna than he did." -@jonathanalter
