so, wait, are y'all saying you cannot do revenue sharing on cover songs here categorically? (your licensing page that you redirect to also says you only do mechanical licenses for covers)

Great question! Materia Music Publishing (@MateriaMusicPub) collects the sync/performance royalties on YouTube. For cover song artists who want to collect their *sound recording* revenue on YouTube and other DSPs, we suggest Soundrop, Distrokid, Screenwave, or a similar MCN.

Soundrop cannot do a synch license for YouTube covers as part of mechanical distribution, can it? Isn't that one of the problems? - that some musicians started incorrectly registering covers in the system that they didn't have rights for?

We do not know what type of relationship Soundrop has with YouTube. From Materia's end, we have a relationship with YouTube and Google to *proactively* license the sound recording and publishing rights to YouTube to ensure accessibility and availability.
