Congratulations, this is a safe way to open up. Rapid antigen tests (RATs) have been available to us for months. Should be used to screen & safeguard our boundaries/borders, venues, schools & institutions. Best RATs match PCR, take 10-15mins & cheaper. abc.net.au/news/2021-09-03/w…

In the UK they are part of daily life… readily available in chemists and everyone has them in their homes for bi-weekly testing. Why is Australia always last on these things? It will take another 3-4 mths before we say geez that was a good idea

After hearing you speak on RAT for maybe a year our governments have got there. Not because of the science but they have no other choice as the pcr testing system buckles under the pressure. But we got there 😉

Thanks. but some questions - RAT not fool-proof and wont be used every time people leave their houses? When you say 'safe way', you mean it minimises the risk? Only actual safe way to open up is when there is no community transmission, which we have given up on, right?

So what you propose is to force millions of healthy Aussies to be subject to these tests at immense cost for an indefinite period of time, tests that are known to produce many false positives? We will never exit the pandemic if we keep testing everyone with flawed tests.

Would this work in NSW in restaurants etc where unvaccinated people would like to join vaccinated people. Only concern would be asymptotic vaccinated aren’t tested.

RATs would be good for people that are symptomatic but are not close contacts or haven't been to any exposure sites, so then PCR test focus can be on latter. Could have separate lines, and maybe GPs could do RATs for asymptomatic people.

yes colleagues from Vienna, Brussels, and Paris told me last week that to enter any restaurant, bar, cafe etc one has to be vaxd and get a negative RAT before entering. I think one may not be fully vaxd but one gets seating outside if i understood correctly. @billbowtell
