"Can't live in lockdown forever" BUT DON'T SACRIFICE OUR YOUNG. Restrictions mustn't lift until young have vaccine access equity; they carry highest caseload yet lowest vaccination. Without vaccination, young will have highest caseload & therefore highest numbers in hospital.

You assume the young and old are equally likely to end up in hospital if infected. Not so. In Victoria right now, under 20s make up >40% of active cases but just 4% of Covid hospital admissions. Many studies show older people are far more at risk if infected.

The maths will show as total numbers increases in unvaccinated young so will the number hospitalised. If the young remain highest group unvaccinated then hospitalisation will mostly be young. In UK 5-24yo are highest Delta numbers & Delta increases hospitalisation by two fold.

So by this logic we should stop vaccinating old people so the share of cases in the young stops growing, right? Honestly this shifting of goalposts is insane

The maths shows? Yes that maybe one approach but there is little practical evidence to suggest this in fact as a professor of epidemiology I would expect a lot more from you. The facts are there is little evidence to support your claim. I doubt you will get it too

hi mary. while im not disagreeing with your numbers and evidence poltical pressure and business pressure also play a role. fatigue has kicked in and i beleive a calculation will be made its better to put some kids at risk and open up than not open up

I’m suggesting a longitudinal rather than randomised control trial to expedite vaccine approval for children and young people. Each participant is their own control - if sufficient do not suffer adverse effects surely vaccine can be approved.

In the UK under 18s are only 5% of those hospitalised at the moment though despite being a much larger % of cases. Still a concerning number actually number of course. They need to vaccinate them

I agree with this thinking and my 13yo has had his first Pfizer shot. But what is with the UK’s hesitancy to recommend vaccination for 12-15yo’s. Hasn’t the UK had high enough infection rates in this age group to understand the need to vaccinate these young people?

ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationa… The latest British data shows massive difference in Covid hospitalisation rates by age: from 1.15 per 100k for 5-14 year-olds, to 29.51 for over-85s. Of Covid-related deaths, only 8% were under 45, and 0.4% under 15. Please respect facts.
