Herd immunity(HI) a big ask but we can do it. Countries targeting HI as % of total population= Israel 66%, Singapore 75%, NZ 78%, China 70-80%. We should target minimum 67% total pop, preferably 80% (for Delta). HI includes 12-18years & should target 100% vaccination of 60+years.

Well, the real oldies in Homes don鈥檛 get a say so HI=100%. What happens when we find even 80% for others not enough with NEW VARIANTS to come? Anyone to say there is NO Herd Immunity? We鈥檝e been to slow to shut Pandora鈥檚 Box, and there may be no way to put it back in again

One thing I don鈥檛 get with these HI estimates is how some assume HI reached while carving out large portions of the population (ie. children). Doesn鈥檛 that mean if virus gets into eg. a school, then it runs rampant? Doesn鈥檛 immunity need to be spread evenly across whole popn?

Is it only with diseases that we refer to humans as a herd. I might start using it more broadly. Like there was a big herd of humans at the football on the weekend. (Sorry for this not very serious tweet). 馃榿

Norman Swan said on TV yesterday that the 'herd immunity' principle will be useless if we neglect vaccination of all children. Swan said it has been shown in overseas examples that the virus is spreading unchecked in education settings for young children.

Since this will be an ongoing vaccination each year, is there modelling of vaccination rates in subsequent years? I'm sure less will vaccinate each year.
