Outbreak management should first and foremost be based on a duty of care to the community. Delta VOC, highly infectious with adverse effect on vaccine efficacy. Stay-at-home order is over due.

The WHO says lockdowns are only for when hospital systems are overwhelmed. Do you have evidence of Sydney hospitals being overwhelmed with sick covid patients?

And the "duty of care" must incorporate the known damage that is caused by locking down a community. It is about risk and harm management - not outbreak management.

@normanswan The reliance of tracing alone is extremely risky assuming everyone checks @NSWHealth list updates. Just put my foot down Re daughters flatmate ‘what list?’ sent her for testing why? BJ Westfield 😩
Indeed stay-at-home order is over due. Why doesn’t NSW employ a short, sharp & hard lockdown as a control measure. What is the Premier seeking to prove, given that this Delta strain is easily transmitted, so why is she taking a political & economic posture about the situation.

Love your work Professor. You’re my go to person for cut through and no nonsense epidemiology analysis since this pandemic began followed closely by @normanswan and @billbowtell. 🙌🏼

Mandatory vaccination should be discussed in terms of responsibility to the wider community, provided there is room for conscientious objection. Less onerous than serial lockdowns.
