Purpose-built quarantine costs a fraction of economic cost of lockdowns from hotel quarantine breaches. Lockdown costs $1Billion/week for NSW or Vic. Cost 3000 bed quarantine facility range $500-700Million. 4 week Vic lockdown=17-24K beds in purpose-built quarantine facilities

Cost of lockdown doesn't come out of the federal fiscus, which means @ScottMorrisonMP does not care.

I think it was Hunt during the week quipped back to a tv journalist, 'how long do you think that would take to build'? Didn't China build a whole hospital in a week?

What about using Woomera for the whole country's quarantine? Everyone enters Australia stays there for 2 wks, then flies on home. Has the big runway for large planes. The old detention center has a couple hundred rooms but if you needed to expand, i opal mine at Andamooka and..

You are missing their point..this way they spend nothing, and get to play politics and blame the states (obviously not NSW)

I know where they can save $600 million (now that the Nationals have won the by-election in the Hunter) that would be a great start to the construction of purpose built quarantine facilities!

No, solution is to ramp up vaccinations. Building a purpose-built quarantine will take at least a year and reinforces this closed border approach. EY estimates that the closed borders is costing the Australian economy $7.6 billion a month.

Yes, and as you have pointed out, a breach from an infection in hotel quarantine is about 1 in 170 infections - odds way too high in a densely populated city.

Prof is what’s the point of an AZ vaccine if it’s not even effective against the variants. Booked in this week, 64y & atypical asthmatic. Fit & healthy no other co morbidities. And won’t be fully covered till Sept.I’m having AZ, would prefer Moderna/Pfizer

If it is that simple, just focus on vaccinations, stop the lockdowns , you won't need quarantine facilities & you will save $1bn. All of these is a conversation that should have happened, maybe 15mon ago. Now this is just a waste of time. Even NZ doesn't have it. Time to move on.
