Herd immunity is not the goal of current vaccines because 1) all levels infections not preventable 2) would need high efficacy for all level of infection & high pop coverage. Please get any vaccine to give better chance of protection from symptoms, possibly severe COVID & death.

So why does the best infectious disease doctor in the world Dr fauci say that is the Aim - He is very clear unsure what percentage but says it could be around 80 percent plus come on they just got the cheap one I am all for vaccinating our pop but we should have a choice

Higher efficacy is best option for sure. If you can still get asymptomatic infection after vaccination you can spread it. Herd immunity is only achieved when a vaccine prevents spread of infection (not just symptoms/death).

Thanks I am an advocate for vaccinating and come from a large community in Melbourne and have followed these vaccines closely I am devastated that Morrison govt did not bid more for the mRNA we want to have the best chance possible to bring this to its lowest levels

clearly understood what you are saying they don’t know that yet It’s the most important vaccine in our lifetime govt should have looked at the highest efficiency rate fauci says the higher the better and more chance of herd immunity not immediately we still social distance

We will need to still social distance for maybe even year after vaccinated to bring this virus to the lowest levels
and now, a few months later, we now know the mRNAs have an eff vs "any infection" ~90%, AZ ~50% and both drop trans by another 50% (so if vaxed but symptomatic only ~50% as likely to transmit to household)
