Mandatory masks will help to prevent the spread of COVID 👌. Government, shopping malls and venues should hand out free masks to augment the current physical distancing and hand hygiene stations. Assisting everyone's cooperation is more effective than fines.

Thank you Prof McLaws for providing common sense advice since day 1 of this pandemic. FINALLY a mandate for mask wearing is happening. Cant help wondering how much financial and psychological pain could have been avoided, had this happened 9 months ago... 😷

It’s a real shame that masks weren’t mandated earlier. They are an inexpensive but effective tool to restrict spread. They are also a constant reminder that we are living through a pandemic. Sure they can be annoying, but I think Covid would be worse!

Victorians just funded our own. Why can’t people of NSW do the same. Fucking weak whingers. A week of isolation and they are “traumatised”. Give us a break 😡. Get on with it NSW and do your bit

👍 I expect major shopping centres will adopt this practice immediately. Some of them already had staff offering free masks when they were voluntary. Theatres in Sydney that mandate masks have been offering free masks for months, to enable patrons to comply. We'll adapt fast.

Good morning Mary-Louise. Interested to know what’s the best published science on masks preventing community transmission?

Fines are the incentive for the oppositional. Like a speeding ticket.
