Vaccinating 80% of Australia in 8 months means 170,000 injections per day every day; 4 times the average daily number Covid tests (Apr-Dec). Our health system will struggle to vaccinate while fighting outbreaks unless quarantine flaws are strengthened before March.

The government has prioritised the most vulnerable first, assuming of course its incompetence in terms of sourcing doesn’t derail a March start. It’s quite possible to ring-fence those likely to need intensive support. There is far too much anxiety inducing commentary on Covid

vaccines don't ringfence until it reaches herd immunity because vaccines dont (yet) stop symptom fess infection and transmission by vaccinated persons). Herd immunity for COVID is yet undetermined but assumed to be greater than 80%.

I think you are confusing ring vaccination with ring fencing. Ring vaccination is an alternative to mass vaccination, but only mass vaccination cam achieve herd immunity. HI can indeed be calculated if you know the R0. Which we do.

So vaccinating those in aged care and their carers will not be effective? I only made this comment because it’s the strategy recommended by our government and also the UK. I thought the jury was still out on whether transmission by vaccinated persons was possible.
