It would also be better at reducing infection rates; but I’m not an economist, so that’s for the Government to decide.
Reactive vs Proactive: Don't wait for R>1 as alert to act will be too late. Using regional small but increasing daily case numbers alert to act easy to miss. Watching 2*incub periods easier to see when to be proactive.

A good cloth mask ir medical mask for the public is sufficient protection when youre not performing an AGP

From a world wide group of specialists.

With respect, after SARS, a whole group of experts reviewed what happened and how it could have been managed better. These learnings are very useful with Covid19 and we are benefitting from them.

Sometimes quotes are taken out of context. To clarify I support WHO guidelines & approach to developing them. Yes, I do get tired of particle size argument, we know viral infections & COVID patients expel both airborne & droplets but we interpret epi pattern for major spread mode

To clarify- I am frustrated that there is a focus on ‘particle sizing’ instead of what we see in the epidemiological pattern supports droplet spread in the community. Medical masks protect health workers during routine care. I support WHO guidelines.

The evidence shows it works.

Thank you Melbournians! Ring fencing postcodes (localised lockdown of hotspots) isn’t pleasant - but it does work and we are grateful. Keep safe, get tested, exercise. We're barracking for you ❤️

Whenever you go on public transport or where people aren’t distancing enough, please use them :)

Yes, people get “tired” of isolation measures.

We use 14 consecutive days because it’s useful - just over double the average Covid19 incubation period to see good/bad changes. In Melbourne, the rolling 14 day case average is nearly 5 times larger (386) than the previous 14 day average (June 2-15) of 79.

To put it another way- it’s a “virtual fence” drawn around the area containing a cluster of infections. Within that area, there is extra testing and contact tracing to find infections. People are asked to stay within the area, to reduce chance of spreading the infection further.

Ring Fencing is a term used to describe localised 'lock down'. It's effective when the threat is not homogenous across a city/state.

WHO released updated guidelines June 6; we included mask where prevalence is high, when physical distancing can't be achieved. who.int/publications/i/item/… Don't know how to change welded-on group-think when some increased protection better than none 😫
