Should we still be visiting our older family members? ONLY provided you are practising social distancing and good hygiene, haven't been OS or in contact with a confirmed case and completely symptom-free, says @UNSWMedicine Professor @MarylouiseMcla1. smh.com.au/national/should-w…

Italy's #coronavirus response probably came too late and Australia should take a lesson in acting fast, says Professor of Epidemiology and @WHO advisor @MarylouiseMcla1 "Some will say it's overreaction, and I say, 'Thank goodness it's not underreaction'."

We are at a tipping point - every individual can influence the course of the epidemic with social distancing & public health behaviour. Return travellers must self isolate for 14 days without exception. Gov to meet each at the border with strict isolation instructions.

The newly announced strong border policy is unpleasant but allows contact tracing and isolation. We can operate business 'nearly' as usual (imports/exports ok). Stay strong Australia. #COVID19au No need to #Lockdownaustralia

lets do the maths - in the last week Australians suffered biggest jump by 172 cases. Week before jump by 47. Early strong border is unpleasant but allows contact tracing, isolation, business 'nearly' as usual (imports/exports ok). Stay strong Australia.

Gov records show 61% of cases have direct/indirect travel history. If cases still under investigation follow similar pattern then over 80% of cases have travel history. This makes border closure + 14 day isolation for all travellers an epidemiologically sound decision. About time

Just announced by @ScottMorrisonMP- Border security requiring 14 days isolation for all entries. Thank you all. This is the time for tough decisions. We totally support this decision. 👌 #coronavirusaustralia

Dr Visser explains it well! My experience with SARS and on the WHO COVID-19 expert panel for infection prevention, indicate that without border protection this virus will rapidly spread to the vulnerable. That places great strain on hospitals.
WOW! Read this from Dr Adam Visser, an intensive care specialist in Toowoomba, and understand the dilemma. Understand the urgent need to take this pandemic seriously Far more seriously than “mass gatherings can go ahead until Monday”. #COVID19Aus @ScottMorrisonMP @GregHuntMP

Virologists (vaccines), epidemiologists (outbreaks) and economists ($) differ on infection control. My experience, as an epidemologist, is that without border protection this virus will rapidly spread to the vulnerable.

The Italian airforce gives a big emotional lift to their nation with Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma (let no one sleep)and where lyrics say venceremos(we will overcome)they have their planes dramatically facing and overpowering the single plane (virus) with their National Flag!

Evidence shows this is the most effective way to control the spread of Covid-19. Closing the borders need not stop trade. Anyone who must come in, isolates 14 days. Within Australia anyone who gets the virus (& their contacts) isolates 14 days. Sport & public events could go on.

Very unfortunate, get well soon. Covid-19 case forces UK’s McLaren Racing out of #f1Melbourne. If we want to contain this virus, ALL overseas visitors to Australia must be quarantined 14 days. #auspol #ausbiz

Double down on containment efforts is a key message from the @WHO Press Conference today. 90% of cases are in 4 countries. We have seen virus containment through tracking down and isolating those infected. #COVID19
