Pratas Island was mentioned for the 1st time in MND's China Military Power Report 2019, since then China has stepped up its grey-zone operations in Southwest Taiwan both in the air & at sea. It's important that we continue to focus our resources on asymmetric capabilities.

🇪🇺🇹🇼 EU Parliament today votes on the historic report on EU-Taiwan political relations and cooperation. That Chinese Communist Party efforts to stop this democratic process were futile sends a strong signal from Strasbourg to Beijing.

NSB DG Chen Ming-tong 陳明通 & I talked about how to more effectively counter China's political influence. This begins w/ asking social media sites like Facebook to make transparent their censorship guidelines & seek clarity on why certain comments appear to be censored more.
I met with Foreign Minister Wu to discuss the latest development in Taiwan-U.S. relations, our strategy to rally like-minded trade partners to support Taiwan's CPTPP application, int'l coordination to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Guam's strategic importance continues to increase, I believe it makes practical sense to have a defense attaché office at Taiwan's mission in Guam. Maintaining regular communication channels with our U.S. counterparts is critical to preventing a crisis and during a crisis.
Had an opportunity to exchange views w/ Senior Advisor to Senator Menendez Mr. Michael Schiffer. I conveyed to Mr. Schiffer our deep appreciation for U.S. strong & bipartisan congressional support over the years and our desire to ensure that it remains so in the decades to come.
