Democracy means more than just electing a president, it also means the rule of law, human rights and equality. 🇹🇼Taiwan's participation at #SummitForDemocracy will demonstrate our commitment to defend democracy from those who attack it.

Remember to defend your republic from Leftists within who will glad hand, and smile, and say the beautiful words they think you want to hear and will not do a damn thing but undermine you and let you hang. Do not go the way of Hong Kong. Sometimes perception is not reality.

I think there are plenty of empirical and instrumental reasons for preferring democracy. Democracies are less likely to go to war, more likely to make decisions that citizens accept as legitimate, and more likely to command un-coerced loyalty and respect from their citizens.

Nevertheless, experience also vindicates some of the doubts. It’s hard to deny, that at least as it has evolved in America, democracy puts a premium on the skills needed to win office, which may not correlate all that well with the skills needed to govern. Trump Administration!

@iingwen Democracy is a method of selecting leaders, protecting civil liberties and political rights, and upholding the rule of law. Other citizens have more expansive views of democracy, viewing it as a mechanism for promoting social equality and economic growth, for example.
