We now live in a world where CCP's leaders call China a "democracy that works" and Taiwan's former president Ma Ying-jeou 馬英九 calls Taiwan "illiberal democracy" in an op-ed. Why are KMT & CCP making concerted effort to discredit democracy ahead of #SummitforDemocracy?

Democracy means more than just electing a president, it also means the rule of law, human rights and equality. 🇹🇼Taiwan's participation at #SummitForDemocracy will demonstrate our commitment to defend democracy from those who attack it.

2 weeks from today, the people of Taiwan will head to the polls for crucial referendums that will define Taiwan in the years to come. Let's send a clear message that Taiwan is a reliable trading partner at the ballot box. #四個不同意台灣更有力

It's unacceptable that China's coercive economic measures continue to go unchecked. Like-minded countries must develop a multilateral framework to push back against economic coercion and support economies that are being targeted by authoritarian regimes. Taiwan🇹🇼🤝Lithuania🇱🇹💪
Lithuanian exporters have reported they cannot clear their goods in Chinese ports after the country was apparently dropped from China's customs registry bit.ly/3ltxTKj

"She continues to articulate, and to demonstrate through her own style of leadership, how Taiwan’s values are distinct from those of its giant neighbour. Her leadership offers a lesson for all of us: how to respect Chinese interests without selling out our own."

Unlike so many of the world’s political and business leaders who self-censor at the first hint of displeasure from Beijing, @iingwen does not buckle in the face of intimidation, says @TheCarrieGracie about Taiwan president Tsai Ing-Wen #FTWomen2021 ft.com/womenof2021

I commend the @WTA leadership for taking a stand in expressing concerns for Peng Shuai. China is going to push back hard on this, it's important like-minded countries continue to speak up & stand strong behind WTA and the entire tennis community.
"With the full support of the WTA Board of Directors, I am announcing the immediate suspension of all WTA tournaments in China, including Hong Kong."

The new Omicron variant is a remainder that the pandemic finish line is not yet in sight, we don’t have the luxury to let our guard down. Public & private sectors must work together to ensure global equitable access to COVID vaccines & therapeutics. WEAR A MASK, WASH YOUR HANDS

This week, we passed the bill authorising the govt. to draft a special budget of up to NT$240 billion for arms purchase over the next 5 years. 64% of the budget will go to anti-ship capabilities, bolstering Taiwan's asymmetric defence posture.

Excluding Taiwan from #INTERPOL creates loopholes in int'l security & puts innocent lives at risk. e.g. Taiwan is currently denied access to I-24/7; as a result, we're not allowed to view or issue #RedNotice for fugitives. This isn't about politics, it's about saving lives.

I was honoured to join my colleagues for a lunch with the @EP_Democracy delegation led by @rglucks1. We had a productive discussion on how Taiwan and the EU can partner on countering externally organised disinformation campaigns by making our societies more resilient.

If Xi Jinping doesn't even bother to show up (even virtually), why do we continue to let China block Taiwan's participation. As world leaders head to Glasgow for #COP26, Taiwan is once again left out of the conversation that seeks to address the most pressing issue of our time.
Chinese President Xi Jinping won't address the COP26 UN climate talks in person or video. He will send in a note instead. politi.co/3jXrgyS

Pratas Island was mentioned for the 1st time in MND's China Military Power Report 2019, since then China has stepped up its grey-zone operations in Southwest Taiwan both in the air & at sea. It's important that we continue to focus our resources on asymmetric capabilities.

NSB DG Chen Ming-tong 陳明通 & I talked about how to more effectively counter China's political influence. This begins w/ asking social media sites like Facebook to make transparent their censorship guidelines & seek clarity on why certain comments appear to be censored more.

As Guam's strategic importance continues to increase, I believe it makes practical sense to have a defense attaché office at Taiwan's mission in Guam. Maintaining regular communication channels with our U.S. counterparts is critical to preventing a crisis and during a crisis.

Had an opportunity to exchange views w/ Senior Advisor to Senator Menendez Mr. Michael Schiffer. I conveyed to Mr. Schiffer our deep appreciation for U.S. strong & bipartisan congressional support over the years and our desire to ensure that it remains so in the decades to come.
