They didn’t. They found some as they were moving stuff out to vacate office space. Then they decided to do an exhaustive search of anywhere he could have any. Completely different from your guy, Trump, who lied about having classified documents, and then wouldn’t return them.

The Dems knew that if the Repubs won the house, they would start investigations into the Bidens, which would have involved subpoenas of certain known government documents which would have been found to be missing. They waited until after the midterms to see who won.
